VR Commerce Design System

Chief Product Officer

A platform capability built for the Insperience studio team to build VR experiences with consistent, tested, and validated interaction paradigms.

Design System

Led a team of Product Designers, Prototype Engineers, and Engineers to design and build the proprietary VR Commerce design system utilised by the studio team for building out experiences for brands wanting to merchandise their physical products in VR.

Unlike the web and mobile, VR doesn’t have decades of standardization of interactions to leverage when designing immersive experiences. The existing conventions are used mainly for gaming and entertainment and were not developed specifically for merchandising and commerce.

The purpose of this design system was to take a rigorous approach to designing, prototyping, testing, and codifying the most appropriate interaction paradigms for the use case.

Human-centered Design

Human-centered design is an approach to interactive systems development that aims to make systems usable and useful by focusing on the users, their needs and requirements, and by applying human factors/ergonomics, and usability knowledge and techniques. This approach enhances effectiveness and efficiency, improves human well-being, user satisfaction, accessibility and sustainability; and counteracts possible adverse effects of use on human health, safety and performance.

Hypothesis-driven Development

Hypothesis-driven Development (HDD) replaces requirements with hypotheses. The key outcome of an experimental approach is measurable evidence and learning.

HDD challenges the concept of having fixed requirements. Requirements are valuable when teams execute a well-known or understood phase of an initiative and can leverage well-understood practices to achieve the outcome. For exploratory, complex, and uncertain phases you need hypotheses.

With [this capability / feature / idea] we will observe [this action / outcome / change ] and we will know we have succeeded when we see [ this measure].
